To make b the subject of the equation, we need to get b by itself on one side. First, I would multiply both sides by a-b, giving ya - yb = a. Then, I'd subtract ya from both sides, leaving -by = a - ya, then finally divide by -y, giving [tex]b = \frac{a}{y} - \frac{ya}{-y} [/tex], which is equal to [tex] \frac{a}{y} + a[/tex]
