Yes, I do agree with this statement that he has made. Mainly because he has graduated from the University of California, San Diego with a PhD in music composition. This alone grants him the title of "Composer". Not to mention that he has worked with many other famous composers, and created various albums such as The Bible Without God, Martian Anthropology, etc. Applebaum even teaches music composition and theory at the Stanford University. With all these achievements and more than 20 years in the industry, he has earned the right to call himself a composer.
