Aerobic exercises concentrate on strengthening the muscles involved in respiration and the heart rate increases. These exercises improve the circulation of blood and transportation of oxygen in the body. Anaerobic exercises build strength and muscle mass. While performing these exercises the heart rate will not increase as much.

The physical activity can be of two types. They are aerobic and anaerobic. Aerobic physical activity requires the input energy in the form of oxygen while anaerobic do not requires the same.

Further Explanation:

Aerobic exercise is a kind of cardiovascular conditioning. During this the breathing and heart rate increases for certain time duration. Oxygen is the major source of energy during this type of exercise. During this type of exercise an individual breath faster and more deep and this therefore maximizes the quantity of oxygen into the blood.

Anaerobic exercises results in sudden bursts of energy and occurs when there is maximum effort for a short duration. During this type of exercise an individual’s body needs instant and immediate energy which can be obtained from the breakdown of glucose molecules.

The fitness of the body determines whether an individual should be involved in aerobic or anaerobic exercise. If one just begins to do the exercise, they should prefer the aerobic exercise to develop endurance.

Benefits of aerobic and anaerobic exercise:

1. Aerobic exercise: Reduces the risk of heart attack, weight loss and boosts the mood.

2. Anaerobic exercise: strengthens bones, burns fat and builds muscle.

Example of aerobic and anaerobic exercise:

1. Aerobic exercise: jogging, swimming laps, cycling, rowing etc.

2. Anaerobic exercise: heavy weight lifting, box jumps, sprinting.
