Israeli acute paralysis viral infection is what decimated bee colonies in North America in 2006-2007 and had a widespread effect and resulted in the killing of 1000's of honey bees which drastically reduced the production of honey and caused an increase in the price of honey.
Israeli acute paralysis virus (IAPV) can cause a systemic infection, resulting in mortality in both Apis and Bombus spp. bees. However, little is known about the virus infection dynamics within bee tissues. IAPV was produced by injecting 160 virus-free bumblebees with 500 IAPV particles and waiting three days for the virus to amplify within the body.
