To this end, Pasteur filled a long, curved neck laboratory flask with some kind of nourishing broth, then boiled it so that if the broth became sterile, free of microorganisms, and after that, it left the glass to rest for some time.
After a few days, he realized that the curvature of the neck prevented the microorganisms from reaching the broth (which was exposed to the air), acting as a filter.
Pasteur then broke the neck of some vials and could see that soon the nutritious broth was full of microorganisms. With this experiment, Pasteur was able to prove the theory of biogenesis.
