Hello, I am learning Japanese So I need a Japanese person to answer this question.

Alright So I realized their are some words that have 2 different meanings For an example sumimasen means Sorry; excuse me. But I dont want one day I am talking to a japanese person and say one of these words and they mistaken me for the other meaning. So will they know what meaning I am talking about depending on how I respond?

i think it really depends on the situation/context. for example if your saying sumimasen while going thru a crowd they will understand. but if your trying to order and call out to the waiter sumimasen they will understand you want their attention
