Root System Growth is the process by which plant roots grow
Answer: Growth of plant roots is initiated with the help of root apical meristem ( a region of fast diving cells that is present at the root tip). To begin with, the meristem cells undergo division to produce root cap cells ( for protection of meristem) and undifferentiated root cells.
These undifferentiated root cells become primary tissue for root growth. For root growth, they undergo elongation ( a process by which tip of the root is pushed forward in the growing medium). Slowly and gradually, the cells undergo differentiation and maturation so as to become the specialized cells of root.
In this way, plant roots usually grow.
