Answer: Feld decides not to interfere in Sobel’s relationship with Miriam.

The main conflict in the story "The First Seven Years" is the fact that Feld, a Jewish showmaker, wants his daughter to make a good marriage. However, he is not aware that his daughter, Miriam, has a relationship with Sobel, a man who works for Sobel. Although initially unhappy with the situation, towards the end of the story Feld decides not to interfere in their relationship.
