Viruses are considered to be the simplest form of life. The term virus is latin word which means Poison. These are composed of small number of macromolecules i.e. DNA or RNA and Proteins, sometimes glycoprotein and lipoproteins are also present. Viruses are Obligate parasite i.e. they totally depends on the host. They can infect and parasitize all forms of life including bacteria. Following are the character of Virus,
Living Character:
- They posses DNA or RNA.
- They can Reproduce.
- They cause infection.
- They undergo mutation and genetic recombination.
Non-living Character:
- They are subcellular (non cellular).
- They do not excrete or respire.
- They can be crystalized.
Discovery: It was discovered from the tobacco mosaic disease which causes the leaves of tabbaco to be mottled.
