The conflict within the rules of the game with Amy Tan was that Waverly wanted to be more independent and more free and out of her mother's grip. Waverly, in the end, became rude and disrespectful. Her mother had won against her, making Waverly become annoyed and she gave up. Waverly had run away from her mother and was on the streets. She wanted to be free but note she's only a kid, so she ran away. She realized she had nowhere to go and stay. So, she went home and back with her mother. We can tell that the mother only wants what's best for her daughter, but Waverly doesn't want anything to deal with her mother. Waverly seems rude and selfish, while her mother only wants the best and wants her child with her. Any mother would want their child with them and wants them to respect their elders.
