Parking lights ( called sidelights in the UK),  are located at the front and back of the car, they are white or amber in the front and red on the back.

They are used for parking only, it is never legal to drive with your parking lights on. All vehicles must display parking lights when parked on a road or a lay-by with a speed limit greater than 30 mph.

Parking lights were used before cars became equipped with emergency flashers or hazard lights. They were also used during the 'twilight hours', instead of full headlights. Some consider them a relic from the past and of not much use today.
