Young girl that lives with her 4 brothers and sisters and were attacked by indians who came and destroyed the community of Deerfield MA. Some of the captured people were taken to Canada and some went with the indians. Mercy wanted to keep her Puritan ways but the longer that she was there, the more she got used to their ways and wanted to be a indian. This caused lots of confusion because they don't believe in god and she doesn't know who to believe. Once she arrives in Canada she finds herself as a servant and the only thing that gives her confotm is faith and her prayers to herself.
