The cell duplicates it’s contents at the start of mitosis and only divides one time compared to meiosis that divides 2 times thats why chromosome number is lower in meiosis

Relation between mitosis and chromosomes:

  • During mitosis, a cell duplicates all of its contents, including its chromosomes, and splits to form two identical daughter cells. Because this process is so critical, the steps of mitosis are carefully controlled by certain genes.
  • As they move, they pull the one copy of each chromosome with them to opposite poles of the cell.
  • When mitosis is not regulated correctly, health problems such as cancer can result.

When a cell divides by way of mitosis, it produces two clones of itself, each with the same number of chromosomes.
