The Old Kingdom includes the first important dynasties that made Egypt an advanced civilization. The Old Kingdom began with the Third Dynasty of kings in 2686 B.C. and ended with the Eighth Dynasty, more than 500 years later. Memphis (also a Greek name) was the capital of the Old Kingdom.
