Jorge's rectangular garden was 17 feet long and had a perimeter of 54 feet. He made his garden 5 feet longer. What is the area of his new garden?

Respuesta :

17 x 2 = 34
54- 34 = 20
20/2 = 10 which is the width of the garden
17+5= 22
22 x 10= 220feet = the new area
The perimeter of the garden is the total amount of the four sides of the rectangle added together and we know that two of the sides are 17 feet long so 17+17=34 and 54-34+20 which means that the other two sides are 10 feet each. if we add 5 feet tow each of the 17 foot long sides the sides would be 10,10,22 and 22. to find the area we do length times width the new length is 22 times the width of 10 equals 220. A=220
