For the first section, divide the bottom number into the top number. The lowest whole number you get will be the big number on the outside. The remaining numbers will be in the numerator. For example, in a for the first section, I divided 4 into 5. Four only goes into five once equally, so the big number would be one. To reach five, just add one more to the numerator to get 1 1/4.
For the second section, just multiply the big number into the denominator, then add the numerator. For example, in a of the second section, I multiplied 2 times 2, giving me 4. The numerator is 1, so adding it to 4 gives me 5, making the answer 5/2. Notice how the denominator always stays the same.
