Jerusalem is a city in the Middle East located in the country of Palestine but also under occupation of Israel. It is located on a plateau in the Judaean Mountains between the Mediterranean and the Dead Sea. Jerusalem is surrounded by valleys and Mountains including the Mount of Olives.
Israel is divided east–west by a mountain range running north to south along the coast. Jerusalem sits on the top of this ridge, east of which lies the Dead Sea graben which is a pull-apart basin on the Dead Sea Transform fault.
