George Champlin Sibley (April 1, 1782 – January 31, 1863) was an American explorer, soldier, ... In 1811, he led an expedition, known as the George C. Sibley Expedition, to improve relations with the Pawnee and Kansa tribe.

The main goal of the Sibley expedition was to improve the relation between the Kansa and the Pawnee tribes, they also wanted to examine the hunting grounds of the Osage.

After they visited the Kansa village on the Kansas river, near the present day Manhattan, they met with the Pawnee on the Platte river, after that they turned south and visited the Osage villages Along the Arkansas river.
