The prokaryotes lack a nucleus and are single-celled organisms. However, eukaryotes are the organisms that contain a nucleus and other membrane-bound organelles. The major feature that distinguishes prokaryotes from the eukaryotes is the compartmentalization that is observed in the case of eukaryotes. Protein processing occurs in this apparatus. Various glycosylation enzymes that are responsible for attaching the sugar monomers to the proteins are present in the Golgi apparatus. Thus, the Golgi body helps in protein modification and sorting them for transporting it to its destination within or outside the cell. The Golgi apparatus is involved in lysosome formation and lipid transport.
