The denominator of a fraction is four more than the numerator. If both numerator and denominator are increased by eight, simplified result is 5/6. Find the original fraction (do not simplify )

Respuesta :

numerator=x
denominator=(x+4)
The original fraction would be:  x/(x+4)

We can suggest the following equation:
(x+8)/[(x+4)+8]=5/6
(x+8)/(x+12)=5/6
6(x+8)=5(x+12)
6x+48=5x+60
6x-5x=60-48
x=12

The original fraction would be: x/(x+4)=12/(12+4)=12/16

answer: the original fraction would be: 12/16

ANSWER: The original fraction is 2/4 EXPLANATION: If the numerator and denominator (2/4) had both increased by 8 ,then it will become 10/12. However, if we simplify 10/12 into lowest terms (10/12 both of them will be divided by into 2),then it will become 5/6.
