i believe x=y-15. i believe this is the equation since you are trying to find out x, so you are saying that for each round, x equals the y (the vertical side of the graph) - 15 since as you can see each round goes down 15 contestants. to find an example for this, it would be x=y-15 and to substitute these numbers this it can be x=65-15, so the 6th round would have 50 contestants, and so on; 35, 20, 5, and so on.

For a.), I think that the expression with the x would be something like *insert #*-x.
