2.To escape religious persecution
Explanation:
1 Increase wealth and influence in global politics
Europeans ambitioned America's wealth and wanted to extend their influence over the globe. When the Spanish first arrived in the New World they began to colonize and send ships back and forth to Europe. They spread the rumors that new lands were available for exploration and that gold was abundant in the recently discovered continent.
The British and the French after Portugal were the following Europeans powers to come to explore, primarily in the search for gold. Portugal settled in today Brazil and North America in 1562 was mostly occupied by the British & French.
2.To escape religious persecution
The colonies that came to lay the foundations for a new political and religious order were called the colonies. The 13 Colonies were seeking a place where they could exercise the Protestant faith freely.
They did not want to rely on the Catholic Church and wanted to also be independent of the socio-political constraints of England.
They saw the New World as a place where they could develop a new social order and where liberty to exercise spiritual practice was key.
