The cell cycle explains the series of activities taking place in the cell for the purpose of growth and division of the cell.
It starts with the interphase usually known as the resting stage. it is further divided into:
- Gap 1

- Gap 2
Gap 1: At this stage, cells synthesize RNA, generate proteins and grow in size.
S phase: DNA instructions are duplicated and two daughter cells are produced.
Gap 2: Here, cells continue to grow in size, and validation of the DNA instructions also takes place.
Mitosis: This is where the nucleus and its contents divide. The division of cells into two homologous daughter cells takes place in an orderly fashion.
