The most amazing thing about the vanilla orchid is that it only flowers
for one day each year. This means that vanilla farmers must check
each of their plants every day so that they don't miss the harvest. With
many plants, this can take a long time. Because it takes so much work
to harvest the vanilla beans, by the time it reaches your grocery store,
vanilla is very expensive.
