This gives us the powerful nation we are to call home to this day, and for I am given the pleasure to explain why this event made that so.

The Louisiana Purchase was a big deal. The United States was having issues using the port of New Orleans. Western farmers needed to use this port to store and to ship their products. When we learned that Spain had transferred the Louisiana Territory to France, we offered to buy New Orleans and West Florida from France.
