The value of x and y  for the given equation by elimination method are 1 and 1 respectively.

Elimination method for solving the system of equations;

The elimination method is the process of eliminating on of the variables in the system of linear equations using the addition or subtraction methods in conjunction with multiplication or division of coefficients of the variables.

According to the given question

We have two equations

[tex]2x -y =1...(1)[/tex]

[tex]x+3y-4=0...(2)[/tex]

Multiply equation (1) both the sides by 3

[tex]6x - 3y =3...(3)[/tex]

Adding equation (2) and (3)

[tex]6x+-3y+x+3y -4 =3\\7x =7\\x =1[/tex]

Substitute

x =1,  in either 2x -y =1 or x + 3y -4 =0

2(1) - y =1

⇒ -y = 1 -2

⇒ -y = -1

⇒ y =1

Hence, the value of x  and y is 1 and 1 respectively.
