Hinduism had the caste system. The caste system differed from normal class hierarchy because once you were born into a caste, it was next to impossible to move up to a higher caste. This was because of the belief that the actions of your past life determined the caste you'd be born into during your next lifetime. Higher caste members were viewed as more spiritually mature because being in a higher caste implies a well lived past life, and vice versa for people born into lower castes.
