The text in bold states, "And fired the shot heard round the world". There is not really a shot that can be heard around the world, so that is an exaggeration. A hyperbole is an exxaggeration.  This figurative language might be showing that the poem is talking about something that is going on around the world. For example death. People around the world would know the feelings and sadness that comes with death. This line in the poem helps evolve the main meaning of the poem to that we can all experience things.
