What is the difference between Sont and Sommes in French?

Sommes is for the word “Nous”
Example: “Nous sommes la France”
Translation: “We are going to France” (I think)
Sont is for the words ils/elles.
“Ils/elles sont la France” (I think)

Sommes is always and only used with nous and each time you want to say we are you have to use the expression “nous sommes”, don’t think, only memorise it. Dont is always and only used with elles or ils pronouns. I hope this helps
