Leader-Member Exchange Theory proposes that the quality of treatment between a leader and a follower is a crucial determinant of how each follower will be treated, in other words, the leader has different ways of bonding with each of the collaborators (followers) who share a common goal in a unit of work. Among the development stages of the dyadic approach, we find the vertical dyadic link where the leader has different ways of linking with each of the collaborators (followers) who share a common goal in a work unit. Leaders form one-to-one relationships with their followers and create groups of included and excluded within the leader's work unit. The included group comprises followers with strong social ties to the leader in a supportive relationship characterized by great trust, respect, loyalty and mutual influence.
