Answer:  The character that might have said this quote was the father of  Anne Frank Otto Frank. In his statement I think he meant that if we keep bickering and arguing we are going to bring ourselves to destruction which basically means we are the true enemies to ourselves.I do agree with this statement because Mr.Frank was kind of like the glue in the Secret Annex whenever it started to get heated up he cooled it down.So I know he knows what he is doing.
