Nucleic acids are responsible for the transfer of genetic information from one generation to the next. The two type of nucleic acid are DNA and RNA. When a cell divides, its DNA is copied and passed from one cell generation to the next generation. RNA is essential to the synthesis of proteins.
cell have different regulatory proteins like enzymes and some trans acting elements that attached to the cis acting elements of DNA and help its trancrption and translation each DNA has specific arrangment of nucleotides according to which RNA is produced which instruct ribosomes to form specific protein which will perform specific function in organism or play structural role
hope this helps
