During the revolution, women found jobs in domestic services, textile factories, coal mines, and seamstresses. Women went from farmers and caregivers of children to factory workers and working just as the men were. Sadly, women were forced to work hard jobs for less pay than men. Sometimes women had the tougher end of the job but got half of what the men got. For example, a common job for women in the mines was to have coal carts strapped to their waists as they crawl through a mine hole to get to the destination. It was tiring and dangerous and the pay was not as good. After the revolution women who did not work in factories did not work in jobs that were economically valuable. Why? Because at this time things that were economically important (like farming and tending to animals) were no longer so. More people worked and their time was no longer their own, so women of low society worked as household staff.
