To Miguel music is his passion and he loves it, while Mamá Imelda feels that it tore her family apart because it caused her husband to leave to follow his passion, but for Héctor it was also his passion like Miguel until he became homesick and attempted to go home when he was poisoned and killed, for Ernesto he loved music but stole all “his” songs from Héctor and poisoned him because without him he would have been nothing, so he took all his songs and claimed that they were his own, Abuelita only wants to protect her family from music because it had caused so much damage in the past, lastly Mamá Coco loved music as a child because her papa would sing to her.
