The Civil War was a war between the traitors of the Confederacy, the African Slaves who wanted to be set free from the horrid working conditions, and the Northern part of America trying to get the Confederacy back in line. Since the Colombian Exchange, Africans were taken from their homes, put on ships and were treated as cargo. Africans were lined like boxes in a delivery truck, and there were no bathroom breaks. No getting up to the deck to throw up, no going to the toilet to poop, no help with birth, no help with menstruation, nothing. Imagine that for 4 whole months you were forced in a 4 foot long area and were having to deal with other people pooping, peeing, menstruating, puking, and there may be a few births going on somewhere all around you. On you. Gross, right? Whenever an African died, they would just throw him/her off the ship, into the ocean to sink to the bottom. And the Africans who got there? Sold at an auction like property, and branded like cattle. Fast-forward a couple hundred years, and Abraham Lincoln officially said that slavery was bad. The South's solution? Officially call themselves not America and become terrorists. And then the war started. Many kids went into the war (all boys, 12 and up) and most of them died. Now we all know how the war ended, but just for time sake, the North won, and the South had to come back to America. But even now, years later, we still don't give people of color the respect they deserve. From police brutality to the economy, us kids have the power to speak up and give people of color that they should have had hundreds of years ago.
