I personally find it historically significant as it still holds its effects today, I think if the outcome of who won were to differ todays society wouldn't be as successful. The battle its self was heroic, but both the confederate and the union had extremely heroic acts. In fact, towards the end of the war, the confederate had so little hope yet so much courage, they actually ended up walking, not running, but walking toward the union knowing they had the advantage of more men and better territory. The union shot them down one by one, until the general directed them to walk back, with union still shooting at them.
