It helps us develop a better understanding of how societies behaved back then and how it differs from how we behave today. We can see the growth of society as we know it today. Also, it helps to grow our appreciation for certain things we have today that weren't available to others in the past. Certain events in history led to some of the laws we have today, so history helps us create new laws.
