The Silk Road and Indian Ocean trade routes were similar because they both spread the Black Plague, went over water (silk went over land mostly though) and they both spread religion and cultures. Differences are they spread different religions, Indian Ocean trade routes carried more bulk goods while Silk did more luxury goods and Indian Ocean trade routes were sea based trade routes based off of monsoon winds while Silk Roads were relay trade routes.
The networks of exchange were mainly the Silk road and the Indian Ocean trade routes.
- The main Silk Road routes can be seen between the Indian ports like Barygaza, Barbaricon and Middle Eastern ports like Kane, Sur, and Aden.
- The similarities between the Silk Road and the Indian Ocean routes was that they helped in moving luxury goods to Europe from East Asia. They were also vital in the spread of religions like Buddhism and, Islam. The products sent through the routes include spices, textiles etc.
- The main difference was that while the Silk Road route was on land, the Indian Ocean trade route was on the water.
