Distribute the exponent
You have 1/4 and you have a parenthesis with an exponent outside of it, this means you distrubute the exponent to both the top and the bottom.
[tex](\frac{1}{4})^3 = \frac{1^3}{4^3}[/tex]
Factoring out exponents
Now let's factor out the exponents
1 x 1 x 1 = 1 (One times itself is always one.)
4 x 4 = 16
16 x 4 = 64
(4x4) x 4 = 4 x 4 x 4 = [tex]4^3[/tex]
so therefore,
[tex]4^3[/tex] = 64
Which means
[tex](\frac{1^}{4})^3 = \frac {1}{64}[/tex]
Hope this helps
