A Shakespearean sonnet is written in iambic pentameters, which means that every line is divided into ten syllables (or 5 meters), with the first syllable being unstressed, and the second one stressed. There are 14 lines in this type of sonnet - the quatrains (4 lines) and one couplet (2 lines). The rhyme scheme is as follows: abab cdcd efef gg.
