Antibiotics are meant to kill bacteria by inhibiting their cellular functions. This requires an understanding of the bacterial cell wall as it is the first barrier in going towards the cell's cytoplasm. Moreover, knowledge of the wall helps us develop more effective and efficient antibiotics that also pose minimum risk to humans.
