The Mongols avoided washing clothes or themselves because they thought it would anger the Gods. They were afraid to pollute the water.
During the Mongol Empire, the type of clothing depended on wealth, status and gender. Regardless of the type of clothing people did not believe in washing their clothes or washing themselves, as they would pollute water and anger the gods, that is, dragons who control the water cycle. Thus, the clothes did not change until they fell off or fall apart, except for holidays when wearing specialized clothing for those occasions.
