The system of trade within British colonies in North America was beneficial to both the British colonies and the British empire. This is because until 1660, England did not have total control of the colonies, moreover, the colonies did not act with unity, did not have a national feeling and did not have a balanced and harmonious production.
With the beginning of the exchange systems, England managed to have the total dominance of the colonies, because it made them dependent on the English manufacturing. England established that the colonies should produce the raw material, which should be provided only to the English government. England bought these products at a low price, but it made the colonies dependent on that purchase. After that, England sold products manufactured in the colonies, which they could only buy from the English.
This also benefited the settlers. Because it stimulated agricultural production in the south and industrial production in the north, to provide a basis for agricultural production. with that, the colonies started to work in unity and the feeling of partnership and nationalism was created that encouraged the efforts for independence a lot years later.
