The Anglo American settlement of Texas in the 1820s contrasted from the Spanish settlement of Texas a century earlier in that "Anglo settlers sought cheap land to farm, whereas Spanish settlers built missions to convert Native Americans. Spaniards, in this case, Spanish religious congregations had established some missions in the region of Texas as part of New Spain.
