Step 1. Carefully cut two large windows in a shoe box, as shown in the illustration. Your windows should be on opposite sides of the shoe box. The windows should be directly across from one another to create a clear line of sight between them.
Step 2. Place the tennis ball inside the shoe box.
Step 3. With the windows on the shoe box open, shine a flashlight through one window and out the other. You should see the light emerge on the opposite side of the shoe box.
Step 4. Experiment with the shoe box’s window flaps and the tennis ball to find out under what conditions the light from the flashlight will be blocked or visible.
