A soccer ball rolls across a field with
an initial velocity of 14.9. Due to friction, it slows down at a rate of .5 until eventually coming to a stop. How far did it roll AND how long did it take to get there?

Answer:

The value is  [tex]s = 222.01 \ m[/tex]

Explanation:

From the question we are told that

  The  initial  velocity is  [tex]u = 14.9 \ m/s[/tex]

    The deceleration is  [tex]a = - 0.5[/tex]

Generally from kinematic equations we have that

     [tex]v^2 = u^2 + 2as[/tex]

Here v is  0 m/s because the velocity of the ball when at rest is zero so

     [tex]0^2 = 14.9^2 + 2 (-0.5)s[/tex]

=>    [tex]s = \frac{222.01}{1}[/tex]

=>    [tex]s = 222.01 \ m[/tex]
