It is naturally coded to spread quickly. The advantage to that is that it was useful in the prevention of erosion and management of the landscape.
Presently, it is creating an ecological imbalance. Kudzu is very efficient at collecting and converting sunlight more than the local plant species and even tree plants. The competition from Kudzu is so tough, tree plants are being starved off of soil nutrients and sunlight and are unable to survive.
Even the wildlife are affected as the crops which they forage on cannot are outcompeted by Kudzu.
