Tectonic activities occur mostly at or near the areas near the surface of the earth where tectonic plates meet. These plates are like slowly shifting pieces to a puzzle that makes up the earth's outer skin. Activity can also occur where the Earth's liquid mantle comes particularly close to the surface.
