1: Why the vietnam war was so hard to fight. The war in Vietnam was difficult to fight due to the fact that the terrain was so harsh that it made the americans struggle to survive. There were 58,209 American deaths in the Vietnam war. 10,875 of them were not combat related.

Unfortunately, there was no commitment to the war, most of the soldiers had no idea why they were fighting, and there was a lot of controversy and confusion over the U.S. involvement in Vietnam that got widespread anti-war protests within the U.S.  It was difficult for the soldier to control and predict the events occurring around him because of how dark, mysterious and unfamiliar the terrain was.  During the war, the soldier often felt that all was hopeless, and nothing or nobody could be counted on to provide a sense of continuity necessary to a feeling of integration or conceitedness.
