In the Northern Hemisphere, winds blow counterclockwise around the low-pressure zones and clockwise in the high-pressure zones. The opposite occurs in the southern hemisphere. So cyclones and hurricanes in the north rotate counterclockwise, contrary to what happens below the equator.
